The Second Look Textured Crochet Blanket is a great example of a yarn surprising me with its beauty once I found the right stitch pattern. Made with Lion Brand Mandala yarn in the Groot colorway, this blanket features gorgeous vertical columns of texture that bring the changing colors together in a way I didn’t expect.
What started as a color combination I wasn’t sure about turned into a blanket I really enjoyed making.
The stitch pattern combines double crochet and front post half double crochet stitches in a simple one-row repeat. The raised stitches create lovely vertical lines, giving the blanket plenty of texture without making the pattern complicated.

Once you get into the rhythm, the rows are easy to remember, making this a relaxing project to work on.
Lightweight #3 yarn gives the blanket a nice drape, while the color changes in the Mandala yarn add visual interest without the need to switch skeins to create stripes. The pattern includes nine suggested sizes, from baby to king, so you can make a smaller blanket for a little one or a larger throw for your home.
I love how this blanket shows what can happen when you give a yarn another chance. The combination of simple stitches, vertical texture, and shifting colors creates a finished look that feels more involved than the repeat actually is.
