Twelve Cables Crochet Baptism Blanket

Twelve Cables Crochet Baby Blanket from Dana Nield Designs

Learn to crochet beautiful cables with the Twelve Cables Crochet Baptism Blanket. This baby blanket combines easy crochet cables with a classic white color to create a soft, textured design with an heirloom feel. If you have never tried crochet cables before, don’t let them intimidate you. They are much easier than they look!

The cables are created using front-post stitches worked out of order to create the crossed effect. Once you understand how the stitches are crossed, the pattern becomes quite approachable.

The blanket features twelve cables, with each cable three stitches wide, creating a beautiful repeating design across the blanket.

I originally designed this blanket as a baptism gift, and I think the details make it especially meaningful for that purpose. The three-stitch-wide cables and twelve cables both have traditional biblical significance, while the white blanket reflects the traditional color of baptismal garments.

Of course, you don’t have to make this blanket for a baptism—it would also make a beautiful Christening, baby, or special-occasion blanket.

The blanket is finished with a reverse shell stitch border that adds a pretty finishing touch to the cable design. This was a new-to-me border when I made the blanket, and I was so pleased with how it turned out! It may look complicated at first, but once you get the feel for the stitch, it is surprisingly easy to work. Whether you are learning crochet cables for the first time or looking for a meaningful handmade gift, I hope you enjoy making this special blanket.
